FPGA-Accelerated Dehazing by Visible and Near-infrared Image Fusion
نویسنده
چکیده
Fog and haze can have a dramatic impact on vision systems for land and sea vehicles. The impact of such conditions on infrared images is not as severe as for standard images. By fusing images from two cameras, one ordinary and one near-infrared camera, a complete dehazing system with colour preservation can be achieved. Applying several di erent algorithms to an image set and evaluating the results, the most suitable image fusion algoritm has been identi ed. Using an FPGA, a programmable integrated circuit, a crucial part of the algorithm has been implemented. It is capable of producing processed images 30 times faster than a laptop computer. This implementation lays the foundation of a real-time dehazing system and provides a signi cant part of the full solution. The results show that such a system can be accomplished with an FPGA.

Near-Infrared Image Dehazing Via Color Regularization
Abstract—Near-infrared imaging can capture haze-free near-infrared gray images and visible color images, according to physical scattering models, e.g., Rayleigh or Mie models. However, there exist serious discrepancies in brightness and image structures between the near-infrared gray images and the visible color images. The direct use of the near-infrared gray images brings about another colo...
متن کاملFusion of Thermal Infrared and Visible Images Based on Multi-scale Transform and Sparse Representation
Due to the differences between the visible and thermal infrared images, combination of these two types of images is essential for better understanding the characteristics of targets and the environment. Thermal infrared images have most importance to distinguish targets from the background based on the radiation differences, which work well in all-weather and day/night conditions also in land s...

Due to the differences between the visible and thermal infrared images, the combination of these two types of images leads to better understanding of the characteristics of targets and the environment. Thermal infrared images are really in distinguishing targets from the background based on the radiation differences and land surface temperature (LST) calculation. However, their spatial resolu...
متن کاملComparison of Near Infrared And Visible Image Fusion Methods
Visible images are usually merged with midrange infrared images for surveillance enhancement or for non visual tasks like face recognition. The IR images contain information that is not the same as in the visible range images. We test fusion of near infrared images with visible spectrum images for detail enhancement and contrast highlighting using several quality metrics. It is shown that compu...
متن کاملWavelet-Based Visible and Infrared Image Fusion: A Comparative Study
This paper evaluates different wavelet-based cross-spectral image fusion strategies adopted to merge visible and infrared images. The objective is to find the best setup independently of the evaluation metric used to measure the performance. Quantitative performance results are obtained with state of the art approaches together with adaptations proposed in the current work. The options evaluate...
